About Sunflowers Farm

Steve and Debbie Jones and their children, River, Jasmine and Bonnie, started Sunflowers Animal Farm and Farmstay from scratch in mid 1999. Prior to that date, the Animal Farm part was unused, overgrown and full of rubbish.

When Debbie holidayed in the area as a girl in the 1970’s, the field along Carters Road was an amazing array of huge yellow sunflowers every spring. She immediately recognised it and changed the name to the name she had known it as back then — Sunflowers Farm.

They hope to allow as many people as possible to have contact with animals that may not otherwise be possible in today’s world.

Sunflowers Animal Farm and Farmstay is situated at 5561 Caves Road, near Margaret River in the South West of Western Australia.

Margaret River

The Margaret River was named by one of the Bussell boys (who founded the whole area from Busselton south), in honour of a girl he left behind in England. However she never even came to Australia, let alone saw the river which was named for her. The town was founded in the late 1800s but its natural wonders were a well kept secret until the local wine industry took off in the late 1970s.

Mouquet Farmstead

Before the name was changed, this place, an old dairy farm, was known as “Mouquet Farmstead” aka “Moo Cow Farm”. The original owners were brothers, one of whom was killed in 1916 at Mouquet Farm in France during World War I. The Australian Army sustained over 11,000 casualties there.
